Short Field Landings

You will touch down on target within the first third of a short runway and stop before running out of pavement.

About this lesson

Short fields punish every bad habit — high, fast, or floating. Your tutor coaches you through stabilised approach speed, threshold aim point, and firm-touchdown technique at increasingly challenging strips.

Why a human tutor? The difference between nailing the threshold and undershooting is a few knots. A tutor sees the trend before you do.

What you'll learn

  • Setting and holding the correct approach speed (1.3 Vso)
  • Aim point selection for short runways
  • Full-flap configuration and energy management
  • Firm touchdown technique — why greasers are wrong here
  • Maximum braking without locking up

Prerequisites

  • Comfortable with normal landings
  • Any GA or bush aircraft
  • Basic understanding of approach speeds
