Go-Around Decision Making

You will recognise an unstable approach early, execute a go-around smoothly, and set up for a second attempt without panic.

About this lesson

Most sim pilots have never practiced a go-around under pressure. Your tutor deliberately sets up scenarios — unstable approaches, late runway changes, traffic conflicts — and coaches the decision and execution until it becomes automatic.

Why a human tutor? The hardest part of a go-around is deciding to do it. A tutor puts you in scenarios where you have to make the call under time pressure.

What you'll learn

  • Recognising an unstable approach — the three triggers
  • The go-around sequence: power, pitch, config, communicate
  • Managing the pitch-up and trimming for climb
  • When to go around vs when to salvage the approach
  • Setting up the second approach without rushing

Prerequisites

  • Comfortable flying approaches in your aircraft
  • Basic understanding of approach procedures
