What is radiotelephony (RT) practice?
Radiotelephony — talking to air traffic control on the radio — is one of the most intimidating parts of learning to fly, whether in a real cockpit or a flight simulator like MSFS 2024 or X-Plane. This trainer lets you rehearse real ATC exchanges as the pilot: you hear what the controller says, you make the call, and you get told instantly whether your phraseology was correct — the same way an RT examiner would mark it.
Every scenario is built on real phraseology from the UK CAA's CAP 413 Radiotelephony Manual, ICAO Doc 9432 and the FAA Aeronautical Information Manual, so what you practise here is exactly what you'll say on frequency.
How the trainer works
- Read the situation — ATC transmits, and you're told what you need to say.
- Make your call — type it freehand, or tap one of the suggested replies. Numbers, the phonetic alphabet and common abbreviations are all understood.
- Get instant feedback — see which mandatory readback items you got, where you slipped into non-standard phrasing, and the model reply.
- Get scored — finish the scenario for a score out of 10 and an examiner-style debrief.
